We recently stayed at the Ranch Above St. Helena with a large group. It was an absolutely gorgeous place to spend our time in Wine Country!! We had a group of 7 couples (14 people) for a 40th birthday trip, and it was just awesome. The house is beautifully decorated, a wonderfully equipped gourmet kitchen, wonderful sound system. It has everything… pool, bocce ball, overlook deck, outdoor table for dining, hot tub, awesome media room.

Over 5,000 square Feet Under Roof and 70-acres

We are so high up, 2500 feet (we are slightly above neighboring Pride Winery), that we are actually rarely affected by the bay area fog or “marine layer”. For vacationers, this guarantees endless warm summer nights and much hotter average temperatures during the day – ideal for taking advantage of the pool and grounds. All the bedrooms are air-conditioned to be sure. This is basically a state of the art “green” structure with superb climate control. For cooler periods we have radiant floor heat throughout.

The 70-acre ranch is located near the Napa/Sonoma county line and thus uniquely affords easy access and touring of both valleys. We are 25 minutes from the corner of Highway 12 and Calistoga Rd in the Sonoma Valley or just under 25 minutes from the center of St Helena in the Napa Valley. From the Ranch you can drop down to the center of either valley, approaching your destinations from the “side” thus avoiding the encumbered main valley north/south traffic. We are 2 hours from San Francisco, Oakland, and Sacramento. There is an airport in Santa Rosa, 45 min from the house; several commuter flights per day from Seattle, San Diego, and LA.

The house is located off of a mile and a half one lane winding, gravel and dirt road.

The interior dining area seats 16 and the 19′ exterior table overlooking the Sonoma Valley easily accommodates 18. A veritable nature preserve of 70 secluded acres on a ridge at the Napa/Sonoma county line, this home has a breathtaking vanishing edge pool with views of Mount St Helena and beyond. Nature is just BIG up here. Every design choice has been made to improve one’s ability to sense and absorb the splendors of rural Sonoma County. We do our utmost to create the ultimate vacation environment, anticipating one’s every need. The gardens at the house are noteworthy: wisteria droop across the front of the house and roses abound in the side yard. A floral cutting garden and herb garden are designed for resident guests’ use during their stay (seasonal).

The chemical free pool is 60 feet long. The surrounding deck exceeds 3000 sq ft with barbecue area and fire-pit. 8 person (known to hold more!) hot tub, bocce and a media room with 70′ flat screen and surround sound. Extensive area for outdoor seating and dining including dining tables both inside and out. *Please note in the rainy season (typically November-March/April) outdoor cushions are stored.

The kitchen was designed for our chefs, thus professional quality: 10′ island, 4′ range, 3 refrigerators, 2 dishwashers, options for state of the art cooking equipment, etc. The owner, a European-trained interior designer has used antique furnishings and finishes throughout. The refinement of the design adds much to the overall experience and level of relaxation affordable at this awe-inspiring property.

PARTICULARS: We have a caretaker who lives on a neighboring property, so unlike most VRBO rentals, you can be assured of better oversight and assistance; someone is almost always on call. There is firewood on the premises and the fire pit will be stacked, ready for your match to set them alight. The pool is truly chemical free with numerous in-water benches.

CHECK-IN is guaranteed by 4:00 p.m. and checkout is at 11:00 a.m. We do our very best to accommodate early check-ins and late check-outs, but cannot make any guarantees until one week prior to arrival in case the house is occupied on your arrival or departure date or housekeeping is occurring.

The entire property was impressive and the house was so elegant yet very comfortable for our group!

I highly recommend The Ranch Above. The entire management team were accommodating and responsive to all our questions and needs. We had a couple days of a heat wave and had no problem with the AC. They even had an additional unit in the media room. Our entire group was able to watch the football game with plenty of seating. The outside entertaining space was absolutely perfect. Plenty of seating and the pool was large. Outdoor grilling was available making our nights relaxed and just hanging by the pool. Yes, it’s at the top of Spring Mountain(totally worth the drive up). So you may plan your days accordingly. Our plan was just to relax in the morning by the pool, out for lunch and afternoon. Then back for the evening and dinner. Had a private chef one of the nights. Fantastic experience! There is just plenty to do and the bocce ball court was an added plus. We played every night. Thank you, Blair Spangler, for your beautiful property. Can’t wait to come back.

Amazing luxury hideaway!

We had an amazing time. This place is even nicer than the pictures!! It was perfect for our extended family weekend away. We enjoyed the infinity pool, hot tub, bocce ball court, spacious areas to eat/ hang out, the media room, the sunset deck, and the huge kitchen where we could all cook.

A Long Cool Glass of water sitting so peacefully and elegantly at the end of the long steep road.

We and our 6 guests had a wonderful experience. The Ranch Above was Visually stimulating within itself and the breathtaking views beyond. We had hired a driver and van who came and collected us daily to chaperone us to all of our tastings by day and made certain that we returned back safely by days end.

As we all love to shop and cook as well, each dinner was prepared in-house while enjoying our purchases of wines from the day and busily recapping each moment and winery with much laughter!
