Beautiful space surrounded by nature I hosted an intimate women's retreat here, and I highly recommend this beautiful property. Wonderful Base for Napa While a bit of a hike from the Napa Valley floor, once you arrive at the Ranch Above it is an amazing retreat where you can relax in the seclusion of nature around you. All of the rooms were well appointed, and the kitchen provided for a great means by which we were able to have a chef come into the home and prepare a meal for our group. Throw in the infinity pool, hot tub, bocce court and hilltop views, you can’t go wrong with this property!

The Ranch Above in St. Helena We had the pleasure of staying at two of Blair Spangler's properties in 2016 - the Ranch Above in the hills over St. Helena and the Lodge in Kenwood. Both properties are exquisite - the attention to detail in the furnishings and décor is truly impressive, and upon arriving at each property, you immediately get the feeling that you never want to leave. At the Ranch Above, we spent time poolside overlooking the expansive (above above-tree line!) views, and enjoyed using both the built-in outdoor grill and the fully-equipped kitchen for making all our meals. There is also a private yoga/viewing deck on the property where we did some late-night stargazing. At the Lodge in Kenwood, we played games by the fireplace, enjoyed the outdoor bocce ball court and fire pit, and took advantage of the opportunity to walk half a mile down the road for some great wine tasting. If we ever needed anything - from wine tasting recommendations to hot tub instructions - there was a staff member available to answer our questions or show up and assist us. If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind wine country retreat, this is it.

Perfect getaway! Our group of couples enjoyed this long weekend immensely. The house was better than we could have imagined. The amount of living space on the property, both inside and out, was superb. We could all be together around the indoor fire, outdoor fire pit, dining table and kitchen without feeling cramped. At night, we all retreated to our lovely bedrooms for our own space. The house is well equipped with everything we needed to make great meals together. The property is close to a beautiful trail, which made for a great morning hike! We only wish we could have stayed longer. We can't wait for our next trip to the lodge!

Great location for group getaway We brought a corporate group to this home and had a wonderful time. The home is roomy and comfortable, with plenty of amenities. We also brought our own chef / sommelier and she raved about the kitchen. The decor is unique and combines many different styles, but seems to work. We stayed in the dead of winter (cold and rainy), and so were not able to take advantage of the homes best feature, the amazing patio and pool area.
As the description states, this home is at the top of Spring Mountain and is very secluded. You should buy all supplies you will need, as driving down to either St. Helena or Santa Rosa will take 20-30 minutes. There are numerous spectacular wineries nearby however Pride, Newton, Barnett, and others) all within 15 minutes or so and so touring wineries nearby is not a problem.
Overall, this house was perfect for our retreat meetings and presentations during the day, and for the group meals and wine tastings that we had each night.

Perfect for Corporate Retreats I actually booked St. Helena in order to use it for a corporate retreat. We had employees spend several days on the property. Although most of us live in the Bay Area, only a few had ever visited the wine country. The concierge services gave the group a lot of wonderful options. We were scheduled to attend a culinary and yoga class on site. The cooking class actually took place in the main house kitchen, which is equipped with spatious marble countertops, an island, an open range gas stove, and tall glass windows that open up to an outdoor bistro bar counter. I’m not a cook by any means, but the private class was a great introduction to cooking lamb, roasted red potatoes, french bread and a classic Sonoma salad. We were able to enjoy our homemade meal outdoors at a large buffet table close to the poolside. Candlelight made the dining experience incredibly relaxing. The following morning, a few of us were taught by a private yoga instructor. The yoga session occurred on the Summit deck which was very meditative. I didn’t realize this, but the marine fog doesn’t reach this elevation. The site tends to have warmer nights and warmer weather in general. It felt pretty surreal to see a layer of fog and then a bright, clear skyline.
The large size of the media room was another aspect that I appreciated about this house. The design easily accommodated us. We watched several movies and the whole set-up felt like an all inclusive private movie theater. The screen quality and volume options were great and the tiered levels of seating allowed everyone to have a good view. The Sonos music system was also a real treat. We were able to play iTunes playlists from our personal devices. Overall, I will definitely be recommending St. Helena to some of my friends and business partners. It has the ability to focus on the remote outdoors, relaxation and high end luxury.

PH from Pennsylvania Great place to stay while vacationing a week in Sonoma. My husband and I with other couples comfortably stayed at Blair's villa that had all the amenities of home. Beds comfortable, kitchen fully equipped, beautiful settings and a great place to relax. The highlight was the firepit area where we would sit each night after dinner (which was prepared at the well equipped grill area). I would be amiss not to mention Ray, the maintenance man who was there every morning to get the firepit ready for that night and take care of any other needs including the 2 other fireplaces in the house. He was always there to help. I would highly reccomend this spacious home to anyone. Great area to stay because its location was easy access to wineries, grocery stores and restaurants. Information on all was provided at the villa. I think the only inconvenience was the lack of cell service...although having said that, was quite welcomed. I say go and enjoy this great retreat.
